Folk Frienzy Dance Group are a dance group for young people that perform traditional dance in their unique way and style, ensuring that traditions continue for new and old audiences
Songsmiths - Neil and Julie Smith began performing as a duo in 1996 and from then until 2002 their sets consisted of covers until Neil began writing songs himself which were gradually added to the set list until it consisted of all original material
Blackfish formed in October 2013 and were one of the outstanding acts on last year's festival scene. Performing a funky and driving blues set, the trio are on occasions enhanced by brass and horns creating a fuller soul feel . A dynamic fusion of blues and funk.
Turn it Up - Fleet Arts youngsters

Bad Fishermen - are a 3 \ 4 piece folk punk band playing from traditional Irish \ English folk tunes to The Clash, The Pogues and a handful of originals.

Sue McFarlane - our very own sweet voiced songstress
Robyn Johnson is one of the most talented young artists to have emerged from the Derbyshire Folk Scene in recent years. A songwriter and performer of genuine maturity, the last two years have seen her going from strength to strength with crafted songs and stunning live performances
Karl and the Marx Brothers is an English indie folk group from Derby. In 2013 they released their debut album "Angry Folk" on Furthest From The Sea recordings.
Pete Castle is one of the most established performers on the local and national folk scene. An accomplished musician, Pete's storytelling ability has also endeared him to live audiences. An artist who needs little introduction on the folk and festival circuit

Talks
This year we organised a series of half hour talks - a short presentation followed by a chance to ask questions or discuss issues.

  • The launch of the 'Cup of Tea' Challenge with Tony Webster and Andrew Martin Sugars
  • The Derwent Valley Cycleway - The talk will explain the aims of the project to provide a cycleway to link Derby with Matlock following the River Derwent as closely as possible. The talk includes how the cycleway connects existing tourist and other facilities, how it links with the existing National Cycle Network and how it can complement the local train network. The approximate route and the current status of the project will be explained. The audience will learn how they can help with the project
  • Gardener's Question Time - why aren't your parsnips germinating? This and other nagging questions may well be answered by Kathy Fairweather and the Belper Gardening Club. Come along and ask the expert.
  • Love Food, hate waste - David Brown from Derbyshire County Council will talk about how we can waste less
  • Ambergate Hydro - Ian Jackson with the latest update on the Ambergate hydro community energy project
  • Renewable Energy technologies - Q and A with John Beardmore from T4 Sustainability
  • Sustainable transport for Belper with John Shoesmith of Transition Belper's Travel and Transport Group
  • Campaigning for Improved Provision for Cycling – Derby Cycling Group. Recent successes and some of the outstanding issues in providing better cycling facilities in Derby and the surrounding area.
  • Reducing Belper's carbon emissions - Tony Cooper introduces the Transition Belper Energy Group
  • Transition - what is it all about? Q and A session with a panel of Transition Belper Trustees. Come and find out all about the Transition movement.

Betty Bee Books - delightful children's books featuring the Bee family plus activities and book signing Lisa and Kaitlyn's Barefoot Book Snug - carefully crafted children's books, CDs and gifts that spark imagination, exploration and creativity
Crafty Sensations - candles, salts and soaps
Twee Stuff - handmade jewellery and sock monsters using recycled elements
Phil's Scrap - wonderful garden wood burners fashioned from washing machine drums - great recycling

Travel and transport
Juicy Bikes - another opportunity to ride around the field on an electric bike to see how easy it is
Derby Cycling Group - Campaigning for cycle provision in and around Derby since 1979
Bike Back - Derby's bike recycling project will have refurbished bikes for sale and will also offer free bike MOTs including a written report from their 20 point maintenance and safety checklist (Saturday only)

Some special projects:

  • We asked Belper shops and the public to bring a smile by making and displaying scarecrows for the last two weeks of May. Then we'll get all the scarecrows together at the Rugby Club and ask those attending to vote for their favourite scarecrow... The winner was the hugely popular Paddington Bear made by the Toy Library
