Here's how the activities panned out at Belper Goes green 2017:

Fun Palace

This year we are organising a Fun Palace in the main marquee where there will be all sorts of creative and scientific workshops. The general idea of a Fun Palace can be seen here. Booked for the Fun Palace in the Tribe Marquee so far are;

Saturday 3rd June 11.00 - 13.00

  • Katherine Wheatley (author of Carbon Monster) - Make a Carbon Monster Puppet. Katherine will also be running a competition to win a copy of her book.
  • Chris Baxter (Christ Baxter Baskets) Willow Bird Feeders.
  • Suz Hennessey, Pipe Cleaner Fairies and Animals.
  • Frida Nzaba from WISE Campaign (encouraging women/girls to go into STEM careers) Workshop called ‘People Like Me’.
  • Howard Clark from Amber First Responders teaching CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

Saturday 14.00-16.00

  • Kim Kerry, (Kim Kerry Textiles), Lolly Stick Weaving.
  • Lauren Kennersley (Into the Wild Wood) Lauren hopes to start by telling some stories followed by Whittling Willow Wands.
  • Marilyn Deakin (Marilyn Deakin Creative Art) Belper Collages.
  • Bob Allen will be making Whirlpools in a Bottle.
  • Howard Clark from Amber First Responders teaching CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

Sunday June 4th 11.00-13.00

  • Tan Draig, Make a mini wind/water wheel.
  • Mark Bouskill, Make a Hedgehog.
  • Caroline Lavery, Science with Recycled Materials.
  • Howard Clark from Amber First Responders teaching CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • Anne Clark, Bottle Cap Fridge Magnets.

Sunday 14.00-16.00

  • Julie Wozniczca, (Trent Rivers Trust) Fish and Bugs in our local Rivers and Streams.
  • Nansy Ferret, (Nansy Ferret Campbell Artist) Make your own Creature/Monster.
  • Helen Jones, (Vision Fine Arts), Make something from Paper with Origami.
  • Howard Clark from Amber First Responders teaching CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

Woollen Woods - Anne Clark, who is organising the Fun Palace will have books for sale, written about the Woollen Woods part of Belper Art Festival and small woollen animals to go along with the stories.

RAW talks tent
Saturday 3rd June
12.15 - 1.00 T4S: "An introduction to solar panels and battery storage systems". Paul Chandler.
T4 Sustainability undertake projects ranging from carbon accounting to the installation of renewable energy systems. Paul Chandler is the Development Director of T4s and his presentation promises to be an objective look at Solar Panels
and Battery Storage Systems.

2.00 - 4.00 The Human Library:
Join us at the Human Library where the books are the people and reading is a conversation. Pop in to borrow a human “book” to learn about another life. Examples of books you might find in the Human Library include: Muslim Woman,Trans Man,Trans Mum, Wheelchair User, Eastern European Immigrant, Roma, Refugee, Goth, Ex-offender and many more. Just pop - in, no need to book ahead, but we recommend getting in quick as books are subject to availability.

4.00 - 4.45 The Derwent Valley Cycleway and the Belper Cycling Quality Tube Map - Ian Dent

Willow sculpture - help make a giant beehive with Emma near the Kid's Zone

Stone Balancing - such a hit last year! Come and see how high you can go. In the Wellbeing area

Labyrinth - Ola Wilson is planning to build a labyrinth to intrigue and enchant you - at the far end of the field

Belper Banner - work with Jo Kirk to make a banner for Belper from scrap material
